More Better Bikes began as a dream of our founder, Dr. Kim Skattum, a retired Pastor who had decided to help people with basic bicycles.
As the service grew and the shop moved from the garage to a shop shed behind his house and now the Crossroads Community Center, the staff grew as well. It began with a single team member, and soon turned into more youth asking to work in the shop. The growth of the More Better Bike is now up to 15 paid students and 8 high quality "older" volunteers.
Our team
Our mission is simple: "Low or no cost quality bicycles and professional repair according to ability to pay." What started as a simple sevice for friends and neighbors in a garage in 2017, hit a nerve for our broader community. Our mission is being lived out everyday for hundreds of people. The vision of More Better Bikes began as an alternative to high cost quality bicycles and professional bike repairs.
Our belief is that everyone should be able to ride a good quality bicycle regardless of ability to pay. Hundreds of bicycles go unused, discarded or abondoned every year. We take them in as donations to our shop, regardless of condtion, and restore the better frames/bikes to original operating conditions. Bikes that are in bad shape or unusable are parted out and those parts are used to offer low or no costs repairs.
